As we continue with our vows, we come to the part where most people do not want to experience. We say these vows without thinking of what would happen if sickness ever crossed our paths. We tend to look at this and say, "I would endure it because God brought me to it."
But can we truly remain full of joy and hope when sickness interrupts our health?
Sickness can make the heart hold many things. It can hold un-forgiveness, bitterness, anger, hate, resentment, regrets, etc. It can leave you stuck and in a cycle that you so desperately want to be free from.
We must remember to guard our hearts with the word through times like these. If not, we can find ourselves missing out on the goodness of God in the situation.
Let’s take a look at Job.
When the enemy attacked his body, his wife said, "you should just curse God and die." He was in a position of pain and could have walked away but instead he held onto his confession that even in this, God is still good.
“But he said to her, “You speak as one of the [spiritually] foolish women speaks [ignorant and oblivious to God’s will]. Shall we indeed accept [only] good from God and not [also] accept adversity and disaster?” In [spite of] all this Job did not sin with [words from] his lips.” - Job 2:10 AMP
Can we have the same testimony that even in this, God you are still good?
Our vow to the Lord is a promise that we entered into by faith. What I have come to realize is that you don’t get to run away because it gets hard. This is the time I get to dig deep inside and pull on the faith that Jesus gave me. It is through him that I can do all things.
Paul put it like this. “Not that I speak from [any personal] need, for I have learned to be content [and self-sufficient through Christ, satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or uneasy] regardless of my circumstances.” - Philippians 4:11 AMP
God doesn’t bring sickness upon us to punish us, but he allows these things to happen to strengthen our walk with him. He never said it would be easy, but it is possible to endure to the end because he is with us wherever we go and whatever we go through.
So even in sickness, you can remain faithful to God because he is with you to see you through it. We never have to face anything alone ever again. Our vows keep us in covenant with the King. Don’t let anything separate you from it.
