Trusting God in the Storm

Sometimes our everyday lives can be hard and full of struggles. The storms in our life can make our Faith shaky, but the Lord promises in His Word that He will give us peace that surpasses all understanding.

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:7

In Matthew chapter 8, we read about the disciples being in the boat with Jesus in the middle of a storm. They are fearful of what’s going to happen to them because of how strong the storm is, but then Jesus calms the storm by rebuking the wind and waves. This is a great reminder knowing that no matter the storms in our life that may come, Jesus calms the waves and wind, and they obey Him.

Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown! Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!” - Matthew 8:23-27

The disciples had little Faith, but we don’t have to fear because the Lord fights every battle and all the storms for us. When we feel like all of our Hope and Faith is lost, be reminded that God will uphold you with His righteous right hand.

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10

We have a Heavenly Father who loves us, comforts us, and holds us in His hands. In the midst of all our storms, the Lord intervenes with power and authority giving us His Peace and Joy when all hope seems lost. Your situation may not look like the way you want it to be, but just remember that God has not forgotten you or abandoned you.
