"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility, count others more significant than yourselves." - Philippians 2:3
___________
For a lot of us—in recovery and honestly just in LIFE—the Christmas season is hard.
It brings reflection whether we want it or not. Sometimes it’s years ago. Sometimes it’s yesterday.
For me, it brings memories of holidays with my parents.
Holidays with friends who aren’t around anymore—for different reasons.
This season is more than trees, lights, and presents.
And some folks won’t like this, but it’s even more than just remembering the birth of our Savior.
This is the season where we need to pay attention to people.
What’s going on in their hearts.
What’s going on in their lives.
In 2024 alone, we lost roughly 250,000 people to overdose.
We lost about 800,000 men to suicide.
At times, that’s two men a minute who felt like there was no hope left.
I don’t know this for a fact, but I’d bet my life on this part:
A lot of those people reached out in some way—and it went unnoticed.
A lot of them just needed someone to CARE.
Someone to NOTICE.
Someone to LOVE them.
The truth is, most of us get wrapped up in our own problems. Our own stress. Our own schedules.
And we stop really looking around us.
But if you pay attention, you can usually see it.
Patterns change.
People stop going to church.
Stop going to meetings.
Stop answering calls.
Stop showing up.
They isolate.
This is the first Christmas in more years than I can count that I’m actually looking forward to.
I’m excited to have my family around me.
I don’t have much money, and yeah, I wish I could do more for them.
But what’s changed my Spirit isn’t stuff.
It’s relationships that were rebuilt after I destroyed them.
That’s the GIFT.
So here’s what I’m asking:
If you notice a change in someone you care about—especially during the HOLIDAYS—reach out.
A call.
A text.
A knock on the door.
It might feel small to you.
But it might be everything to them.
You really could Save a Life.
You really could change how someone sees the WORLD
Love y’all.
