God has designed every aspect of who we are in Him. He knows the number of the hairs on our head, and He calls us His beloved. We are valued, and precious in His sight.
What does God’s Word say about who we are in Him?
"So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." – Genesis 1:27
"But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." – Matthew 10:30-31
The enemy will try to feed us lies and tell us we’re not good enough. But as believers, we have the authority to take every thought captive and declare that we are a child of a loving Heavenly Father and that we can stand strong in who we are in Christ. As scripture says, for we have been called children of God.
"We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ." – 2 Corinthians 10:5
"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so, we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him." – 1 John 3:1
God has designed us in His own special way, and He crafted us with His love and grace. You are loved, blessed, and anointed for a special purpose. God knew us before He even formed us, we have been called to be set apart and we have been chosen by our loving Father.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5
Often times, insecurity can feel like a weight on our shoulders and if we become insecure about ourselves rather than remembering who God says we are, it will just lead to more fear, worry, and a lack of trust in God.
Why do we become insecure?
Often times, I think we become so insecure because we have the tendency to compare ourselves to those around us. Sometimes we allow our flesh to not recognize that God has made each of us uniquely designed in His own special way. When we let comparison in, it begins to give us doubt and fear and it robs us of our Joy in the Lord.
What are some ways that can help us overcome insecurity?
- Learn to shift your focus from self-doubt to God’s truth, love, and presence.
- Spend time in prayer and surrender your doubts and insecurities.
- Depend on the Lord’s strength rather than your own.
When you are dealing with doubts and insecurities remember, this is what God says about us in scripture:
We are the Apple of His eye (Psalm 17:8)
We are chosen (John 15:16)
We are made new (2 Corinthians 5:17)
We are protected (1 Peter 1:5)
We are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)
We have been created for a purpose, and that is to shine a reflection of Christ. We are called children of God, so we should walk and live in the same way Christ did. For we have been made in the image of God, therefore we should strive to be like Him in everything that we do. I’m often reminded of the verse in Ephesians 5 that talks about being imitators of God. Are we bearing good fruit, and do we show the reflection of Christ everywhere we go?
"Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children." – Ephesians 5:1
