Dancing with Daddy

Imagine it is early morning. You get up out of bed and are still half asleep. After stopping real quick in the bathroom, you groggily walk into your kitchen and there leaning against your kitchen sink with His arms and ankles crossed and with a grin on His face stands the Father God in all His splendor and glory. He is much too handsome for GQ. Oh, so handsome is He! With a twinkle in His eye He says, “Good morning! May I dance with you?” And holds His hand out waiting for you to accept.

You glance down at your pj’s and run a hand through your hair. You have not even brushed your teeth. He wants to dance with you, now, with you looking like this? Does He not know you are not good enough for He? First, you need to shower, change, and clean up your insides – at least you should brush your teeth. Would He really want to dance with you just as you are, or would He prefer you to clean up first? There is no way, you are good enough to dance with Him the way you are.

Taking a breath, you take a chance and look up back into His eyes. The love pouring out to you is so pure, so intense, so overwhelming that you forget all else, drop to your knees, bow with your head touching the floor, your elbows next to your knees and your hands open, palms up. “Holy, holy, holy is He.” The thought rushes through your mind as you stay there, bowing at His feet. “Holy, holy, holy is He!”

Feeling a touch on your shoulder, you look up to see He has bent down and is reaching out to you with His nail scarred hand to help you to your feet. You stare at His hand and look to see His scarred feet thinking, “those wounds were put there for me”. You wonder, “How could he go through such pain and agony?” The forgiveness, mercy and grace those scars represent fill you with His love and peace.

Placing your hand in His, you stand to your feet, face to face with the King of all kings. Still holding your hand, He stoops down to look you in the eye and smiling, He asks, “Will you dance with Me?” Smiling back, you nod your head, so filled with awe that you cannot speak. You get lost in the oceans of His love for you, that dwells in His eyes.

Since He is still holding your right hand, you put your left on His shoulder, and He puts His right on your waist. Is there any need for music? You do not know or care as together you gently slowly start to sway - you with the Alpha and Omega, the Prince of Peace.

The thought, “Could we dance all day?” runs through your brain and in response He chuckles, raises an eyebrow and says, “My dear child, Yes, we may.” You hear music inside you and you both sway in time to the beat.

He wraps His arms around you, still swaying back and forth to the music that is all around. You put your arms around Him too, closing your eyes, you lay your head on His chest. You sway, immersed in His love and together, you dance, and you dance, and you dance.

You hear a sound that distracts you. Popping open your eyes you see your kitchen, and realize the Lord is no longer visible by your side. You look around dismayed. “I wanted to dance all day!” Quietly, gentle as a whisper you hear Him say, “I am with you always, dance with Me all day.”

Looking back, you ponder, “I fell to my knees touching my head to the floor, how was that possible?” But put it aside as you remember the dance in all its purity, God’s love for you and all His glory. You sway to the music that fills your soul, smiling and remembering Him as you go and you still hear, "Come dance with Me." As you go about your day, inside, you dance with Him now and always.

So, dance with Him, my dear one, dance with abandon and delight. Dance with Him from morning, noon, and even into the night. Dance with your husband, dance with your wife, dance with passion and glee. Invite someone else to dance with you and the Lord. Dance with our Savior for all eternity and may His love always shine through you for all to see.
