“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
The bible states in John 1:1 “In the beginning was the word, the word was with God, and the word was God.” As we look at the scriptures, or as I like to call them text messages, we will find everything we need to know about the God we serve, how to live our lives, and how we are to treat one another. The bible is not another book to read or a piece of literature to study to gain knowledge alone, but it is the history of the Father that allows us to grow in him and to grow close to him. If we find ourselves only reading it to check it off the list of Christian duties, we won’t understand who the Father is. A lot of things have been said about the Bible that its manmade and was used as an instrument to keep people bound and oppressed. Although I grew up in church, I don't remember reading it much (for myself). Give or take some Easter speeches and the infamous story about Jesus’ birth, I didn’t have much use for the Bible before my relationship with Christ. But if I continue to be a follower of Christ, I must have the word of God in my heart and on my lips.
Matthew 4:4 says
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out the mouth of God.”
There is life in the word of God. If we are going to live, we must feed the spirit daily. Now that we have become worshippers of God, the bible declares we must worship him in spirit and in truth. How will our spiritual life grow if we don’t feed it what it needs? Our flesh is no longer alive and should not be the focal point. Our spirit man longs to be with the father and to please the father. When Jesus walked this earth, he only did what the Father said. He lived by the word of the Father. If Christ is inside our hearts, He lives to please the Father. He lives to obey the words. He lives to be in His presence, and it is by his words that He lives.
Hebrews 4:14 says, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
In 2 Corinthians 10:4 it states that our weapons of warfare are not carnal but mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds.
Also, in Ephesians chapter 6 he gave us the armor of God. The sword of the spirit is the word of God. The Father has given us a weapon, a sword that is more powerful than anything the enemy will do or say. It will cut asunder the plots and the schemes of the devil. We must know the word so we will have it to use during the times of trials and tests that come to try and stop us. We can’t use our own words to defeat the enemy because our words are full of emotions, and it will not be enough. We need the words of the Almighty God who is alive and has defeated the enemy. We know that Jesus became the living word, and he has all power in his hands and his mouth. The name of Jesus is powerful and demons tremble at the mention of his name. You must know that using the word of God to fight our battles gives us the victory every single time. The word is more than just words. It is the power of God on display for others to hear and be made free from the bondage of the enemy.
2 Timothy 3:16 says that all scriptures are God breathed and for training in righteousness. The word of God leads us into the path of righteousness.
Matthew 6:33 says, “seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all the things will be added unto you.”
We seek the word of God because we are the righteousness of God through Christ. We must learn to live that way. We must know that we may be in this world, but we are not of this world. The bible is for us, kingdom citizens, to govern our lives by. It is our blueprint to live a life in alignment and harmony with the Father. Anyone who chooses not to read the word of the Lord does not want to live a life in communion with him. We must know the word to know how to live. We must know the word and hide it in our hearts, so we won’t sin against the Father. The word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. It guides us according to the purpose and promises the Father has given unto us.
So today I admonish you to read your bible. Don’t read to check the box but read it to know the savior. Read it to grow in righteousness. Read it to grow in your relationships with the Father. Read it to grow in your relationship with others. The more you read, the more you will come alive. The bible is a gift from God. Receive it.
